Alistair
Hamilton started his law career by serving articles with DENEYS
REITZ INC in 1991 and gaining valuable experience as an insurance
and labour law practitioner.
Thereafter
he took up a position in the commercial litigation department
of GARLICKE & BOUSFIELD gaining experience in general
commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on insurance
related matters.
He commenced
business for his own account as HAMILTON ATTORNEYS in 1999,
continuing to specialize in the fields of short term indemnity
insurance, labour and commercial litigation, whilst also gaining
experience in the drafting of commercial contracts and property
related transactions.
The firm can
be categorised as a specialist litigation practice which has
recently extended its operation to include property law. Insurance
matters are typically on behalf of plaintiffs, who require
legal representation pursuant to the rejection of claims by
their underwriters.
These include
claims under the fire and business interruption sections of
commercial policies, with a lesser emphasis on domestic short
term policies.
Alistair Hamilton
has extensive labour law experience, having developed a particular
focus on Collective Bargaining matters and unlawful dismissal
disputes.
These include
misconduct and incapacity related dismissals, as well as retrenchment
matters. He has considerable Labour Court and CCMA experience,
having personally appeared in these forums over a period of
23 years.
